How to Customize Your Subaru Vehicle Without Voiding the Warranty

April 11th, 2025 by

The 2025 Subaru WRX offers excellent performance and is a popular mod platform. It also has extensive warranty coverage. But if you aren’t careful, your modifications could inadvertently void it. Casey Subaru goes over what you need to know to prevent this.

Subaru Warranties Explained

When you buy a Subaru model, it will come with two warranties. The Limited warranty provides bumper-to-bumper coverage and protects against defects related to materials or workmanship. This is good for three years or 36,000 miles. You will also get a Powertrain Limited warranty covering parts like the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. This one will keep you covered for five years or 60,000 miles.

Be Careful with Customizations

Even base Subaru models come with many standard features, but there are always ways to make a great thing even better. If you want to make customizations or add accessories, you must be sure to use genuine Subaru parts. If you install aftermarket components that interfere with original parts or cause damage, your warranty can be voided. The same is true if you modify the engine or suspension system.

Other Ways to Void a Warranty

In addition to what you do to your car, how you use it can also impact the warranty. For example, while it may be tempting to push your Subaru WRX to the limit, using it for racing could cause the warranty to be voided. Taking it out on terrain where it doesn’t belong can do the same thing; the Subaru WRX isn’t a Subaru Outback, so you don’t want to take it on an ORV trail, for instance. Finally, you must ensure you maintain your car correctly, as neglecting key service tasks can void the warranty.
