Casey Subaru Car Safety Tips for Hurricane Season
With hurricane season in full swing, we don’t think there’s any such thing as too much preparedness. However, in the fervor to safeguard the family and home, it’s easy to overlook another asset that requires just as much protection: your vehicle, especially if it’s parked outside. Casey Subaru outlines the steps for car care in the path of an oncoming hurricane.
Protect Your Car at Home
If you’re sheltering in place, park your vehicle in your garage if possible. Once it’s safely inside, keep it as far away from the garage door as possible. This prevents damage in the event the garage door is blown inward, or garage door parts come loose and become flying debris. Second, if the garage door has windows, board them up or apply a thick covering over them using a tarp or other heavy-duty material.
Finally, be sure all car windows are closed. Cover the vehicle with a weather-proof car cover if you have one, and consider getting one from our Subaru parts department if you don’t.
No Garage?
What if you don’t have a garage and must leave your vehicle parked outside? This situation isn’t ideal, but you can still take precautionary measures. Park the car under any overhead covering available, such as a carport. You can also check the local area for nearby indoor parking garages open to the public. If none of these options are available, park your car farther above sea level to lessen the chances of flood damage if there’s a storm surge.
