Received a PCS? What Happens to Your Subaru Lease or Financing?

When you’re in the military, it is important to adapt to change quickly. For example, if you have a Subaru lease or loan and receive a PCS, you need to know how this could affect your life and finances. Casey Subaru has the details on this common question.
Where are You Going?
Your destination will dictate what happens with your lease or loan. If you will be stationed somewhere in the continental U.S., other than changing your address, it will stay the same. Things do become trickier, however, if you are moving overseas.
What an Overseas Move May Mean
If your PCS involves leaving the United States for more than 180 days, you have a few options. If feasible, you might want the vehicle shipped to your new location, although this can be expensive. Some leases and loans also prohibit taking cars out of the country, so you’d need to look into this. If you don’t – or can’t – ship your vehicle, you can sell it back to the dealership, sidestepping the hassles of a private sale.
SCRA Protections
Military members with leases may also be able to get help via the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). It lets you terminate your lease without penalty due to an overseas PCS. If you have a loan and the PCS results in a financial hardship, you may be able to make some modifications with your lender to manage payments better.
