2024 Subaru WRX: a Daily Driver with a Racer’s Heart
The Subaru brand is best known for its rugged and reliable SUVs, but there’s another side to the company’s vehicles. The 2024 Subaru WRX draws from generations of U.S. national rally championship race cars, delivering plenty of power, style, tech, and comfort perks. Casey Subaru explains why this car is as inspired as it is inspiring.
Engine and Transmission
Under the hood, the Subaru WRX has a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four-cylinder engine that delivers 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It can be driven through either a standard six-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. Choose the automatic version, and shifting control is done via paddle shifters on the steering wheel from a selection of three different drive-mode settings.
The GT trim adds adaptive dampers and offers the option of 17- or 18-inch wheels with summer performance tires. The TR model offers Brembo® brakes, a stiffened suspension, grippier tires, and a retuned steering rack.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The spacious cabin’s sport-design front seats, D-shaped steering wheel, and premium materials form a cockpit designed for precision driving. Yet it remains practical, with the 60/40 split-folding rear seat providing easy cargo area expansion. This new Subaru car features analog gauges, carbon-fiber-like accents, and red contrast stitching. The top-tier GT trim comes with heavily bolstered Recaro® front seats covered in micro suede.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Subaru WRX sports sedan is packed with state-of-the-art technology. The StarLink™ Multimedia infotainment system measures 7.0 inches in the base trim, while the other trims receive a portrait-oriented 11.6-inch display. Both support Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. An 11-speaker Harman-Kardon® sound system is an excellent optional feature for serious audiophiles.
Safety and Driver-Assist Features
While this car is performance-focused, it does not shirk its safety responsibilities. You can drive confidently knowing that the active protection of EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology comes standard. Key safety features include:
- Available forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
- Available lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
- Available adaptive cruise control
