But what if you want a crossover with more internal motivation? The Crosstrek’s Sport and Limited trim levels are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder mill that makes 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. The Honda HR-V doesn’t offer a more powerful engine upgrade.

If fuel economy is at the top of your priorities list, check out the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, which combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a plug-in electric powertrain (148 horsepower). The Honda HR-V doesn’t offer a battery-assisted version.

With this equipment and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, the Crosstrek isn’t afraid to explore beyond the asphalt.

The Honda HR-V has seven inches of ground clearance and offers AWD as an option. However, it’s not standard for any trim level and isn’t as capable off-road.
